Planning & Development Department: Overview

The Planning & Development Department aims to give expert support to the other departments in the company in an effort to keep the company in step with the development on the island.

The Planning & Development Department undertakes development projects within the company and plans the company's development to stay ahead of the demand for electricity. This includes performing Load Forecasts, System Analyses, System Standards Development, and Project Management. The Department also does all estimates for extensions to the Distribution lines. This Department is responsible for securing all rights of way and access permissions from landowners.

It is important for consumers to note that poles are planted to remain in their positions for over twenty years. This means that they must be properly planted and stayed if they are to withstand the forces of nature. Therefore adequate access must be allowed for pole alignment and proper staying if we are to avoid leaning poles on the system.

For developers and customers who seek extensions to the development, it is important to note that all roads must be unambiguously marked as such and provisions must be made for rights of way for electricity poles and stays. We thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

The Planning & Development Department is also responsible for the System Diagram that identifies all of our plant and equipment throughout the island. This information helps us with Fault Response Speed, System Control & Restoration, and Asset Valuation. In addition to this our pole numbering programme will help customers to identify the pole that feeds their service. The customer will quote the number of the pole to the Emergency Services in the case of a fault for speedy identification and response.
