JOB VACANCY 1

The Nevis Electricity Company Limited requires additional support for its transmission and distribution operations to allow it to embark on an island wide street light replacement programme very shortly. In light of this the Company is desirous of hiring Linesmen or trainee Linesmen (apprentices) to facilitate this project.

These individuals will be hired for 6 months in the first instance but will be considered for full time employment on completion of the project.

They will report to the Transmission & Distribution Manager or his designate and will provide support for the construction and maintenance of the electrical infrastructure as well as the street light replacement programme.

Some of the key activities of the successful candidates will be as follows:

  • Preparing poles and materials for installations and maintenance work
  • Assisting in the transportation of materials
  • Assisting in working from a bucket truck and in climbing poles to remove existing light fixtures and install new ones
  • Any other required duties assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Three O level CXC subjects including English & Maths

Knowledge & Skills

  • Good oral & written communication skills
  • Knowledge of electricity, first aid and safety practices will be an asset

JOB VACANCY 2

The Nevis Electricity Company Limited is desirous of hiring a Planning Engineer. This Engineer will report to the Planning Manager and will provide the necessary support to allow the department to contribute to the strategic objectives and goals of Nevlec and to the development and execution of system upgrades and additions to meet the current and future demands for electricity and Nevlec’s strategic objectives and goals.

His/her responsibilities will also include assisting with the supervision of large-scale projects and contributing to the coordination of the technical activities of the Company while maintaining the standards set on quality.

Some of the key activities of the successful candidate will be as follows:

  • Undertakes annual load forecasts.
  • Undertakes or provides oversight of engineering studies, such as T&D and Generation system planning, system stability and protection systems design.
  • Assists in the preparation of project plans for capital projects according to designs.
  • Assists in the preparation of terms of reference and requests for proposals for engineering services, contracts and technical specifications for suppliers of tools and equipment including switchgear, protection devices and /or protection systems.
  • Contributes to the preventative maintenance strategy in T&D and Generation.
  • Assists in the formulation and implementation of short, medium and long-term plans, strategic objectives and budgets.
  • Prepares estimates for new supplies.
  • Reviews and updates construction standards.
  • Collects data for analyses.
  • Ensures that system single line diagrams are up to date.
  • Ensures the Geographic Information System is developed and maintained and caters to improving operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Five (5) years relevant experience

JOB VACANCY 3

The Nevis Electricity Company Limited is desirous of hiring a Transmission & Distribution Engineer. The Transmission & Distribution Engineer will report to the Transmission & Distribution Manager and will function mainly to ensure a reliable and efficient supply of electricity to Nevlec’s customers.

The candidate will have responsibility for the construction of new infrastructure as well as to ensure the proper maintenance of the existing infrastructure.

Some of the key activities of the successful candidate will be as follows:

  • Plans the construction of new infrastructure which includes preparing estimates as necessary, liaising with developers and communicating with clients
  • Liaises with other engineers to improve standards
  • Reviews & analyzes logged data on faults and outages
  • Troubleshoots faults & outages
  • Performs preventative maintenance
  • Schedules regular maintenance
  • Co-ordinates the emergency response function
  • Implements safety & protection standards
  • Ensures support staff are properly equipped and that tools and equipment and vehicles are properly cared for.
  • Ensures staff development by Identifying training needs and arranging for the same as well as to coach staff
  • Takes disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Ensures staff productivity by monitoring performance against agreed targets

The successful candidate will be on call to oversee and respond to emergencies outside of normal working hours.
