On October 1st, 2025, the Generation Plant hosted an educational tour for the Grade 4 students from St. Thomas’ Primary School (STPS). The tour was led by NEVLEC’s Generation team and was organized to enhance their understanding of energy production and distribution. Students were then guided through the plant’s operational areas, where they witnessed the generators in action.
The tour continued in the control room, where the Generation team introduced key aspects of the plant’s operations. Using a one-line diagram, students learned about how electricity is generated and distributed across the island through five feeders. Safety is always a top priority, therefore, the visitors and the NEVLEC team alike, wore personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout the tour. The students were captivated by the technical insights and discovered connections between the tour demonstrations and their everyday use of electricity, such as powering lights and devices at home. Overall, this hands-on learning experience sparked curiosity and made the science behind energy more relatable to the students.
To wrap up the visit, the students engaged in a Q&A session with the NEVLEC team, deepening their appreciation for the infrastructure that powers their daily lives. As the group returned to the checkpoint, a teacher expressed sincere thanks to NEVLEC and the Generation team for the enriching experience. The tour not only reinforced classroom concepts but also opened the students’ eyes to future career possibilities in engineering and energy management.
