Team NEVLEC excels at the 2024 CARILEC Lineworkers Rodeo

The annual CARILEC Lineworkers Symposium and Rodeo was held in Antigua for the period of April 19th to 21st 2024, under the theme: Leveraging Technology for a Resilient Grid: Empowering the Line Worker. Team NEVLEC was well represented at the event by Mr. Nelson Stapleton, Transmission and Distribution Manager, Mr. Resean Maynard, Mr. Vidal Jones, Mr. Clayon Clarke, Mr. Rhyan Liburd and Mr. Julian Richardson; Crew Chiefs and Mr. Paul Bradshaw, Kishawn Hobson and Shemar Munroe, Linesmen.

It is imperative that our dedicated Linesmen here at NEVLEC are afforded the opportunities to develop and enhance their skills. CARILEC ensures that Lineworkers across the region are adequately trained to meet and exceed the demands of the energy landscape. The Lineworkers Symposium and Rodeo is an ideal forum for Lineworkers to bridge the gap between their skills and the demands of the industry.

The Symposium comprised of a combination of presentations, practical working sessions, and networking opportunities. The Rodeo was held on Sunday 21st April and consisted of several competitive events inclusive of: Pole Top Rescue, Hurtman Rescue, HV Cut-Out Installation, HV Earth Installation, Basketball On A Pole and Mystery Events. These events had two categories: Experience and Apprentice. Our experience team consisted of Resean, Rhyan, Clayon and Julian who were able to cop 3rd in Fuse Cut Out, 2nd in Earth Installation and 2nd in 3-Phase Pin and Insulator Change Out on Intermediate Pole. The experience team placed 3rd overall all, truly commendable. Our apprentices Kishawn and Shemar came 3rd in Changing Single Dead-end Insulator on 3-Phase Construction using block and tackle. Kishawn Hobson, however, was declared the overall winner in the apprentice category bringing home first place.

We extend our heartiest congratulations to the entire NEVLEC Team as this was our first time competing in this event. Accomplishments such as these are a testament of hard work, commitment, and dedication.
